What does 21 karat or 875 mean?
21 karat means 21 parts of gold out of 24: 87.5% by mass, or 875 parts per thousand. A number stamped on an item is not by itself proof of authenticity or recognition of a hallmark.
How to value a 21-karat item
Multiply the net gold weight by the original, full-precision 21-karat gram price. The source already provides the 21-karat value: do not apply 0.875 a second time. Exclude stones and other non-gold parts.
Why can a shop’s price differ?
Jewellery includes workmanship, design, stones and services. Ask which charges are per gram and which apply once to the item, then compare the final amount. A reference metal quote is neither a retail offer nor a promise to buy used jewellery.
Comparing a used-gold offer
Ask for the tested purity, net weight, excluded stones and all deductions or testing charges. Request the final amount you will receive. Compare like-for-like offers taken at similar times; do not assume recovery of the original workmanship charge or a guaranteed percentage of the reference.
A shared euro reference
Europe is a region, not a single national retail market. Euro-area destinations can share the same reference when the source and timestamp match. Local workmanship, services and dealer offers may differ.
Methodology
The page uses the same saved MetalpriceAPI data as the general country page. The direct g21k field is already a gram value for 21-karat gold. The reference unit formula is pure-gold ounce price ÷ 31.1034768 × 0.875. Calculations retain source precision; display rounding can make a displayed subtraction differ from the underlying change.
Scheduled price ingestion: every 15 minutes. Browser refresh: every 120 seconds. A refresh checks for available data; it does not promise a new provider observation. Source timestamps are converted using Europe/Berlin, including daylight saving time.
Daily records use UTC: the last available observation of a day, not an official local closing price or a daily average. Missing dates remain missing. USD is read independently; past main-currency prices are not converted using today’s exchange rate. Stale or unverified data is labelled explicitly.
MetalpriceAPIEditorial review: 18 October 2026. This date is separate from quote timestamps. Gold Platform publishes reference information, not a personalised buying or selling recommendation.
Frequently asked questions
What is today’s 21-karat gold price?
The current reference per gram is 104.68 EUR, before workmanship and dealer margins. Missing data is shown explicitly instead of zero.
How much is 100 grams of 21-karat gold?
The reference metal value of 100 g is 10,468.38 EUR. The independent USD comparison is 11,746.67 USD. Both are calculated from the original gram quotes before rounding; this is not a price for a particular bar or jewellery item.
Is the price in local currency or US dollars?
The main quote, weight table, calculator and historical series use EUR. USD is a secondary, independently sourced comparison; its timestamp can differ.
Does the reference include workmanship?
No. In purchase mode enter known workmanship per gram or per item, plus known fees. Do not include stones in the net gold weight.
Does the metal reference differ between cities?
With the same source, observation time, currency and purity, the metal reference is the same. Dealer offers, workmanship and services may differ. We do not invent separate city prices or fixed buying discounts.
How do I find the price on a previous date?
Select the date in the historical tool. The exact day is used, or an explicit missing-data message is shown; no different day or today’s exchange rate is substituted.
